🔴 “General elective” is really just a term to describe any class that isn’t counting towards a major/minor or core curriculum requirement but might be needed to reach the 120 credits required to graduate. General electives will not be listed in Stellic. You have to find them on your own. This email is to give you ideas for ways to find and use general electives.

🟠 One way to look for general electives is to view the core curriculum and choose a course you might have been interested in but didn’t take for your core requirement. This will now count as a general elective.

🟡 Another way is to look over the catalog for minors that interest you. You don’t have to declare the minor but there might be courses you can take that interest you.

If you are thinking of declaring a minor, here are popular minors for Media majors (click the catalog link to see the courses required in each minor):

But again, you can choose any minor!

🟢 You can also take a look at the Media catalog and see if there are any Media courses you haven’t already taken. You would then look them up in the course look up area to see if they’re available this semester. Internships (MDIA 391), practicums (MDIA 379), and independent study (MDIA 390) are also popular ways to use general electives.
